• First off, I gotta say I love WP 1.5! It’s wonderful, and I particularly love the pages concept. However, I ran into a problem: When creating pages, if one of those pages has (I hope this doesn’t get confusing) multiple pages, the page list (in the right sidebar of the default theme) breaks…

Viewing any page (or any other part of the blog) works just fine, but viewing the multiple-paged page causes the “Pages” section of the sidebar to returns an error… Check it out:

Test 1 – No pages listed at all???
    Test 2 – Just fine!
Test 3 – Broken page lists, with error.

The page itself, as well as its pages, work just, but the menu does not work while viewing them. Annoying at worst.

(It occurs to me that if a sub-page is entitled “2” or whatever, it would be impossible to distinguish it from page “2” of the parent page… the subpage would appear as /post/2/ and the second page of the page “post” would appear as /post/2/ as well… So maybe pages within pages just isn’t meant to happen (though it’d be oh-so-useful, unless the next request can be met:)

Further, I read that the pages can support countless levels and thousands upon thousands of pages. Well, there comes a point when all of that would overpopulate the sidebar and make it quite ugly to look at… Is there a way to limit the default view to only top pages, so that their children only appear when viewing that specific page, and so on down each level, so that only the path you’re in shows up? That would save a lot of room and possible confusion…

  • I’m looking for a similar solution regarding limiting the child pages. Like a check box to enable visibility on the side bar. I have a thank-you page that I’ve created and don’t need that displayed on the side bar.

    Any help/plugin/hack?

Hmmm, it would seem that I should have searched the Codex, as its documentation of wp_list_pages() has been quite helpful.

However, that doesn’t help fix the bug that if a Page includes the “nextpage” tag, that the menu breaks while viewing that page…
