• I updated my site to the latest 3.6.1 version last night, and now all my side information has gone – I had 8 widgets in the primary widget area (eg: Social Media, Search, Recent Posts, Archives, Categories etc. – Even the Meta widget where I log in has gone).
Can anyone explain to me in plain English how I can get that stuff back?

PS: At the same time I installed an ‘anti spam filter’ plug in which crashed my site – I had to call my webhost to get it back again. What is going on with WordPress?

My site is called ‘myvagabondways.com’ if anyone needs to have a look to see what I mean.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Judirose

  • You could ask the theme author(s) here. Your sidebar widgets are now at the bottom of the page.
Suggestion: reduce the number of blog posts shown on your home page (Settings-Reading). It will reduce the page load.

Hi Media X, thanks again for your help (you answered my desperate plea last night when I thought I’d lost my whole site!).
I just discovered the sidebar widgets at the bottom of my ENTIRE blog entries, just as you said! So, I’ve gone to Settings-Reading, & it is set as this: Blog posts show at most: 10 posts
Syndication feeds show the most recent: 10 items
Should I set both of these to 1?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, forgot to add the link for the theme support. Here it is.
No, you shouldn’t set the Blog posts show at most: to one because you will have only one post on the home page. Try setting it to 5. One more thing: this won’t resolve the issue with the widgets.

The sidebar works on your other pages. Try disabling all your plugins to see if that changes anything.

Thanks, I’ll post something in the Theme Support Forum.
I tried changing the settings to 1 for both the ‘Blog Posts’ & the ‘Syndication Feeds’, & yes it does only show one post as you say but that’s okay – as long as Theme support can help me move the sidebar back to the top, and I can get back the ‘previous’ and ‘next’ post links that appeared prior to me updating. Some of my posts are quite long as they have a lot of photos, so one per page is adequate.

Any suggestions re my other query about spam comments?

Media X – I’ve posted in the Theme support forum as you suggested. I might wait till I get an answer from them before I disable the four plugins I have – I’m not very tech savvy & worry I won’t re-install them properly – or might do more damage to my site. WordPress seems so complicated!
But thanks heaps for you help 🙂
