Buddypress or bbpress

Hi all,

I am wanting to create a site with similar functionality to

http://www.fujix-forum.com/ (this is for reference only)

but different styling. Which would be better to use? Can both be used for such a task as the buddypress seems to have a feature that I like called “activity” which I am sure I can use this as my homepage? Can bbpress do the same thing? (It looks like a recent post kinda thing, but I am not good enough to hardcode etc).
