• Hi all,

I just started a membership site with four different levels of membership (different time periods).

Everytime someone chooses a level, registers, and has successful payment, they get registered as a user but do not gain the membership status that they chose. I’ve tried to go into Orders and change order status to success, but that also does not alter their membership.

I have had to go in manually for each user and change their status to whatever level they had chosen and paid for. This has presented a problem because it states “This is a free membership level. Do you wish to proceed?” (Not verbatim).

Somehow there is a disconnect between people selecting and paying for their membership – and actually getting it. Any ideas?

Are you using PayPal Standard? With PayPal Standard, we have to wait for payment notification from PayPal before giving someone a membership level. There are a lot of things that can going wrong to keep this from happening. Most notably caching of the ipnhandler, poor server performance, and incorrect PayPal email settings. I need to write up a guide on troubleshooting this issue.

If all of your levels are recurring, considering using PayPal Express which doesn’t have these issues. The one advantage of Standard over Express is that customers don’t need a PayPal account to checkout for ONE-TIME-PURCHASES with PayPal Standard. However, if your levels are recurring, they will need to sign up for PayPal anyway (to manage the subscription)… so you can use PP Express which also has no monthly fees and is integrated more tightly with PMPro.

I’m having the same problem, but am also not getting any notification that someone has even signed up, and the test registrant is also not getting any emails until I go in and change from “review” to “success.”

I have my IPNhandler set as was described: mydomain.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=ipnhandler and I see the registrations within PayPal Sandbox as “payment status completed,” but I’m not getting payment notification from PayPal either.

I have all 4 boxes checked in the e-mail settings, and did receive e-mails at my admin account when the test registrant’s account level was changed (from review to success) and when the same registrant canceled the account … so it’s partially working, but not when a new test person checks out.

    Hi All,

Here’s a guide that Jason just put out which may help in your situations: http://www.paidmembershipspro.com/2013/09/read-using-paypal-standard-paid-memberships-pro/

    Thank You

    Hi All,

We were just wondering if you were still running into PayPal Standard issues after reading Jason’s guide above?

    Thanks
