I have an online blog which I wanted to export its posts into an offline version on my local server. The XML file appears to be intact, and then I “uploaded” the file to import in the offline blog.

This step went through fine, but it is the second step that is causing problems, when I have to assign users to the posts. When I click “submit”, the browser is busy for a while, and then I get a page saying “Connection was reset by server” (Firefox error message). I go back and refresh the Manage Posts page and only some of the posts are imported.

I chose to delete all my posts and tried to import again, but the same thing happens. I get a connection reset error and only 5 out of several dozen posts are added to the database. WordPress somehow is not taking in the entire XML file.

  • I had this problem too. In my case, I just kept refreshing, and each refresh brought a few more posts in. After half a dozen refreshes, they were all imported successfully.
