    Using Relevanssi version 3.1.7.

I have tried rebuilding the index as well as disabling/enabling the plugin, to no effect.

I am having two issues that seem related. My setting for “Minimum word length to index” is 3, and fuzzy search is set to “Don’t use fuzzy search”.

If I search for something like “I like apples” then I can see in the search results (via search hit highlighting) that it is matching words like “in”, “is”, and “interface”.

If I search for “erver test” then I can see search hits for “server“.

Why am I getting matches for any words under 3 characters long (as in the first search)? And why am I getting results for ‘erver’ when I have fuzzy search turned off?

Any help or advice you can offer would be much appreciated.

You’re not getting matches for words under 3 characters long. You’re getting highlights on shorter words, but that’s a different thing, and has nothing to do with the actual matching.

Highlighting, as it is, does not respect the minimum word length or the fuzzy matching rule, but rest assured the matching engine underneath does. Making highlighting work like the matching has been on the works, but it’s not that simple.

Ahhh, thanks! I knew it was going to be something stupid and simple that I overlooked. Thanks again for your quick reply.

What you get is the Maximum of Matches if you write nothing in the search form and just click the search button. Is this meant to be so?

What kind of behaviour would you expect to get when you search for nothing? Looks like my sites either show the front page or the list of all posts. I suppose all posts makes some sense.

That is kind of a philosophical question. What should you get if you search for nothing? May be nothing (google does not show you the web with no search term). You could argue (with good reason) that in every article there is “some nothing”, so every article should be shown.

Anyway, is there an easy way to show “No articles found” in this case?

    By the way: great plugin!

I’m not sure – I think it depends on your theme. If your theme is one of those themes that just show all posts, then yes, you can modify your search results template in a way that shows “No articles found” if the search term is empty.
