• Hi there!

I am the owner of a 2 1/2 year old blog (http://www.leavingworkbehind.com/). I am planning on switching to managed WordPress hosting (probably Synthesis) and redesigning the site (probably a custom Genesis child theme — I’m currently using Canvas).

The thing is, I have installed a lot of plugins and put the site through a lot of crap in its time. I’m guessing this means that my database is bloated. Plus there seem to be a huge number of random files within the site’s directory.

So my question is this: in the context of migrating my site to fresh hosting, how should I do it in order to ensure that a relatively clean database is being transferred and that I am not also transferring superfluous files that are not needed?

I’m computer literate and technically competent but I am not good with PHP and the complications involved in site migration, etc.

    Thanks!

    Tom Ewer
