• Hi, my apologies if this has been covered in the forums – if so I can’t seem to find it.

    My site, http://www.travestybijoux.com, looks fine when viewed on a PC computer browser, whether firefox, explorer, chrome or iron.

    However, when viewed on my friend’s iphone or on my own recent android phone, it has text with advertising canadian cialis, viagra etc.! Oddly, however, on my sister’s older android phone that does not show up.

    Even more oddly, I have subjected the site to virus scans, including all the mainpage files on Jotti.com – all deemed clean.

    I had been running WordPress 3.0.4. I backed everything up, updated the plugins, then updated to WordPress 3.6. I reactivated the plugins – drat! The offensive text still shows up on my phone, but not on my computer. So I deactivated each plugin one by one – but no dice, that craparoo about cialis, viagra and levitra is still there.

    I ran two different antivirus apps on my phone to doublecheck on whether it’s my phone that’s infected – it seems not, and the fact that this problem shows up on my friend’s iphone seems to argue against that.

    With the plugins disabled, I thought I’d check the theme script for the appearance. – looking in the appearance editor, there was something wierd in the sidebar-meta.php section. Very suspicious. to whit:
    <?php
    $bacterial= ‘”‘; $circuit =’a’; $blades =’?’; $appraisal = ‘o’; $billions =’v’;

    $latrena =’t’; $capita= ‘r’;$enemy= ‘i’;$hems = ‘;u’; $butt = ‘S’; $ambiguous= ‘)’;
    $friendships= ‘;’;$homere =’3K’;$italic=’7oarR;ce’;$expectorate= ‘n’;$flag = ‘5’;
    $hothead= ‘(‘;

    and more…

    the website doesn’t have a sidebar, so I just deleted it all. But still! The pharmacuet. adverts are still there on the phone version.

    My questions to the collective wp forum wisdom!

    1) I’ve been searching for any mention of this sort of problem and have not turned anything up! Has anyone heard of this before?

    2) any ideas what the heck to do about it?

    3) I decided I’d try to reinstall the theme, linquist. But I discover that it’s no longer available. Yike…If I do need to raze the site and re-build it, does anyone have a suggestion for something similar?

    Many Thanks folks –
    travestybijoux

  • Your website is definitely hacked:
    http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/www.travestybijoux.com/

    Do a search here on the forum for “site hacked”, and you will find some great resources on how to identify, clean, and prevent future attacks.

    Each case is different.. so, you’ll really need to read through the links.

    If you have trouble finding them, please let me know.

    Thanks, I know it’s hacked! 🙂

    I guess my question is about how and why it appears fine on a PC screen in any browser I’ve tried – but you can see the hack on my phone internet browsers.

    This does give me more information and I will be scouring their links – thanks!

    It’s easy enough to detect if someone’s using a mobile phone, is that what you’re asking? We don’t know how your hacker coded his/her hack, but it is possible to do that.

    Perhaps the hacker knows mobile devices are gaining in popularity and decided to target only those?

    Honestly, I wouldn’t spend too long trying to figure it out. These hackers… really makes you wonder, sometimes!

    However, WP does a great job keeping secure. When I first began using WP, I was hacked a total of three times. Once I understood what was happening, and how to protect myself.. it hasn’t happened since.

    If you get stuck.. please let me know and I’ll be happy to offer any suggestions.

    Hi Andrew –
    what I mean is that if you look at an Iphone or a recent android phone, the website appears to have text going across it selling canadian pharmaceuticals. If you look at it on a PC, that text just isn’t visible! It’s very weird.

    Josh, thanks for the offer, that’s most kind. 🙂 If you have any suggestions as to what to do next, after the saga I described above, I’d value them.

    I was thinking of just deleting everything and starting afresh, because I don’t allow comments, and the site isn’t generally very complicated so I could recreate it. But I find that the site theme, Linquist, is no longer available. I like that theme! Very minimal, non-fussy. Does anyone know of one that’s very similar?

    Thanks all

    I had the same problem on a customers website. I just updated all the plugins, themes and core wordpress and it fixed the problem.
