• This is a bit of an odd one. I am running 3.6 with Genesis Lifestyle.

Both myself and readers are having issues with ads randomly appearing where posts should be. What do I mean? You click on a post title, and instead of the post you get one of my 300×250 in the top left of a blank page!

This doesn’t happen all of the time – it happened twice to me yesterday when working on the site. It is happening on mobile devices and PC’s according to readers.

I have just upgraded to Genesis 2.0 this morning and the error has not come back, although to be honest it hasn’t been long enough yet to be sure.

It is also messing up by AdSense numbers – I registered 3x the normal clickthroughs yesterday, which will get me in trouble with Google if this continues.

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

It would be difficult to acheive – it only did it twice yesterday in a solid 8 hour session working on the site. I’ve only had two emails from readers (and there are 3,500 daily visits and 10,000 page views).

I have a screenshot I could send over if you send an email address to Robert [at] robertburgess.com

(site is http://www.headforpoints.com by the way)

I’m sorry but these are community based forums and we do not offer email support. All support here happens here so that the whole community benefits. If you have a screenshot, upload it to your site and post the url here.

    Good idea.

Have you tried removing some of the js-based ads in your sidebar?

I haven’t tried that yet – I would need to strip the ad and then get people to email me if it reoccurred.

However, if that is driving the issue, it must be a WP problem in the way 3.6 is rendering JS because nothing else has changed with the way the ads are delivered.

Whilst my top ad is from an agency, it is also impacting the below the fold ads (supplied by Google) because my click through rate has gone crazy.

Well – put it this way – your site is the only one that has this problem as far as I am aware (and I’m on here almost every day). So, whatever this is, it’s specific to your site/server and not WordPress 3.6.

Is there anything in particular that the hosting company could have done / could fix? We are heading outside the realms of my minimal IT competence here!

It’s impossible for us to determine from here. You could try checking your site’s error logs for clues (your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs). But, if was me, I’d be stripping out all javascript/jQuery on that site as that’s the most like culprit IMO.
