• Hello everyone!

I’m currently working on moving one of my blogs from another blogging service to a hosted WP install.

There are hundreds of blog entries at the blog and was wondering how many times WP would ping the update services when the entries are imported, if at all?

Will WP ping once for each entry or just once altogether once the import is completed?

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the link, Yogi, but it’s still unclear what the default WP behaviour is.

    This bit is particularly confusing:

If you have scheduled future updates be aware that currently, all updates will be pinged at the time of scheduling. This could result in say 30 pings at once. Some operations may frown on this : ( So be aware. </s> they should be pinged as the values in post_date arrive (as of Version 2.1).

For instance, from the blog I’ll be importing, a lot of the entries will be published in the past and some aren’t published yet (i.e. a couple future dated ones) and some are current.

What will WP do? Ping the update service for all the posts except the future dated ones and then ping once they’re updated or not ping at all during blog import?

he doesnt have a clue, or he wouldnt have directed you to page that doesnt even come close to answering your question.

I think what I would do if I were you, and you were concerned, is disable pinging. IF WordPress does ping on imports, it wont if you disable it before hand.

Your question is actually one of the few that Ive never seen asked here, and I have looked a A LOT of posts.

I looked through a few of the various importer files, and there is no mention of actually doing that during the import process, byw. That isnt to say, that it might not occur after the posts are processed.

Yogi has a clue; In fact, yogi is busy fixing some of WordPress core. Whooami needs to ask Whooami if the actual code reflect the answer. Or is Whooami guessing…?

Food for thought. Don’t take me seriously.

i don’t see any code that pings during import.

to ensure privacy, change your privacy settings in Options > Privacy to “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”.

my previous URL is the correct URL to start learning about Update Services because you “ping” (for lack of a better term) whenever you POST; the next time you post, ALL of the items in the RSS will be broadcast. by default, all your posts…

does that make sense? hope this helps.
