updating plugins put site in maintenance mode

I just updated my plugins and when I clicked to go back to my dashboard, the screen showed (translating roughly from Italian): ‘Under maintenance. Momentarily unavailable due to maintenance. Try again in a moment’

This shows up on both the back end and front end. So I don’t know how to fix it if I can’t get in to do so! Help would be very much appreciated.
