• I’ve used an under construction plugin while building a website. I deactivated it a week ago, but still when I search for the website on Google it says: ‘The KiAi Way’ is coming soon.
Any ideas how to make that notice to go away?

    Thanks!

  • It looks like Google hasn’t cached the site since July 11th for some reason. Do you have access to the Google Webmaster Toolkit account for this site? That would let you see if the GoogleBot is encountering some issue that is preventing it from crawling/indexing the site.

I don’t… How can I access the webmaster toolkit? Is there anything inside there I can do?

    Thank you

From what I recall, and it’s been a while, you create an account and then can add sites to your account. But you have to prove you have access to those sites by adding a TXT record to the DNS or uploading a text file with a random code/filename to the site.

Once you’ve added the site to GWT, it will tell you the “health” of the site, let you know if Googlebot is running into problems that prevent it from scanning the site, etc. Make sense?

Yes, thank you. I installed everything but it appears that it takes it a few days to gather information…
I’ll keep looking and seeing if it gives me any information
    Thanks again

Today it changed and the coming soon notice dosen’t appear anymore.
But now when I search for the name of the website this appears:
About >> Name Of The Website

    Why is it doing that?
I’ve also noticed that the name of the page in the browser tab always appear as:
Name of page >> Name Of Website.

Any idea what I can do to change that?

    Thanks

I think you’ve answered your own question (the first one, I mean). It’s showing “About >> Name Of The Website” in Google’s search results because that is what the title attribute of your home page happens to be.

The second question (how to change that?) is more complicated, because I don’t know all the plugins/theme you are using. I’m guessing you probably have an SEO plugin activated? If so, there are probably some settings in there that control what is shown in the browser tab.

I’m not an SEO expert, but I think PageName – Website Name (or some variant like that) is a pretty standard formula for page titles, so you might want to leave that alone unless someone who knows SEO is telling you to change it to something else specific.

I’m using Yoast WordPress SEO plugin.
The way the site’s name appears on Google search really bugs me…

In the title settings in the plugin dashboard there are these options:

    – Force rewrite titles
WordPress SEO has auto-detected whether it needs to force rewrite the titles for your pages, if you think it’s wrong and you know what you’re doing, you can change the setting here.

    Sitewide meta settings
    – Noindex subpages of archives
If you want to prevent /page/2/ and further of any archive to show up in the search results, enable this.

    – Use meta keywords tag?
I don’t know why you’d want to use meta keywords, but if you want to, check this box.

    – Add noodp meta robots tag sitewide
Prevents search engines from using the DMOZ description for pages from this site in the search results.

    – Add noydir meta robots tag sitewide
Prevents search engines from using the Yahoo! directory description for pages from this site in the search results.

    Clean up the <head>
    – Hide RSD Links
    – Hide WLW Manifest Links
    – Hide Shortlink for posts
    – Hide RSS Links

Maybe chacking one of these options will help?
if not, perhaps there’s a different SEO plugin that dosen’t cause that?

    Thank you

My guess would be the first option, “Force Rewrite Titles.”

Just curious, but since you don’t like the “Page Name > Site Name” format, what is your preference?
