Hello Rob,
The message you are getting in the browser would suggest that your site has a misconfiguration. Its just unlucky for me that ours is the first plugin you have tried to install and it has shown up
If installing a plugin causes a misconfig you only ever see a white screen – not an error message from FireFox that says
The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
cookies.
That message is telling you that their is redirection loop which is something in your site config. This plugin has been downloaded over 10,000 times and never has this issue been reported – that is why I 99.99% confident it is your site config.
I will try to help you out though – If you have ftp access and know how – go in and delete the plugin – that should bring your site up again.
If you don’t know how to do that then email me the ftp access details – hostname, username, password, and the folder that the install is in (if it is not obvious) and I’ll do it for you and while I’m there, see what i can see. Use the Contact Us form on a3rev to send those creds.
Hi Steve
I have sent you an email through the contact form.
Kind regards
Rob
Hi Steve
I installed it on another server on a fresh install, and it worked like a charm! What a great plugin!
I would really love if you could still have a look at my problem though on the server with the details that I sent you. I am pretty sure that it is something on the server setup that is causing the problem, but I can’t put my finger on it. I thought that it might be that mod_rewrite was not working correctly, so I made a few changes, but still nothing 🙁
I’ll keep looking, but would appreciate if you could have a look too.
Regards
Rob
Hello Rob,
Yes the issue is with that server – from the ftp access you gave me – it is view only – Got this error message when i tried
Error: Critical file transfer error
can’t create folder or install any plugin
From the wp-admin dashboard same thing – cannot install a plugin because it cannot create a directory.
Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/
Unpacking the package…
Could not create directory.
I think you need to talk to you host – it looks to be a permissions error.
I will mark this topic as resolved as it is a server issue and as you have found not the plugin at all. Thank you and all the best.
Thanks Steve
I really appreciate the help.
One thing that I can tell you, is that you should add to your compatibility list for your plugin…. it works beautifully with ‘Sitemile Auction Theme’ http://sitemile.com/products/wordpress-auction-reverse-auction-theme/ and probably works perfectly for other sitemile themes.
I will be buying the pro version of the theme as soon as I can work out what is wrong with my server!
Regards
Rob
Hi Rob,
Thank you for the feedback re the sitemile theme. If you are happy a 5 star rating for the plugin would be appreciated.
Thank you. Steve
