menu disappeared

Hi there

Working on the dashboard in theme twenty eleven and deleted a menu that had already been created to try and deal with a problem.

There are 4 pages that have already been created and they were on the menu.

Now when I try to create a new menu on the dashboard that’s OK but the drop down menu on the left hand side called pages still shows but the “Links to specific pages can be added to the menu section on the left hand side which includes the three tabs, Most Recent, View All, and Search” which determines what posts are displayed for selection as a menu item has vanished – how do I get it back?
