Target Tags

Unfortunately not. Doing so departs from the Markdown standard. In addition many authors don’t want to add target="_blank" (- and many readers would prefer to be left the option of ctrl+click :)).

But anyway, while its possible to edit the plug-in and make that change, it then ceases to become markdown 🙂 – so its not something I’m going to implement.

You can always mix and match HTML with markdown – explicitly writing the anchor tag with target attribute when you need it.
