15.000 spam in a month detected. Is it normal? How many do you have?

    Last month I had 15.000 spam comment detected by Akismet. The month before, they were been 10.000.
    How many spam comment does your akismet shows in statistic?

    I just want to know if this is a serious problem for my server or if it’s normal or if akismet’s statistics are reliable.

    Those stats should be reliable, the math isn’t that difficult. 😉

    Is your server becoming unresponsive due to the comment spam load? That’s really the question. Ask your host for a monitoring URL or recommendations for setting one up yourself. I use Munin myself but there are other packages and that one may not be the most intuitive to use.

    If your CPU and traffic allotment are well below your quota then you shouldn’t have/see any problems.

    Check your Spam entries and see if they’re hitting new posts or older ones.

    I set comments to close automatically after 5 days and haven’t received a Spam entry since.

    Not saying how well it will work for anybody else, but it might be worth some thought.
