 * I didn’t see this posted (clearly) anywhere when I looked, so I thought I’d post
   what I did.
 * If you’re getting the “feed not registered protocol” error when you click the
   links located in the footer of the default WordPress theme, this is the fix for
   you.
 * If you haven’t made changes to your footer.php file do the following.
 * Method 1
 * #1 Right click and save this file: [http://www.miltownkid.com/footer.php](http://www.miltownkid.com/footer.php)
 * #2 Upload this file to: wordpress-install-location/wp-content/themes/default/
 * #3 Enjoy
 * If you have made changes to that, or are afraid I’m some kind of php wizard that
   might take over your site with malicious code (I wish I had the skill), do the
   following.
 * Method 2
 * #1 Download wordpress-install-location/wp-content/themes/default/footer.php
 * #2 Open that file in your favorite text editor
 * #3 Search for feed: (you should find 2 instances of it)
 * #4 Remove feed: (both of them)
 * #5 Save and Upload
 * #6 Drink a beer.
 * If you switched to WordPress Classic 1.5 follow the steps in Method 2, except
   you’ll need to navigate to wordpress-folder/wp-content/themes/classic/ and edit
   sidebar.php.
 * I hope this helps somebody. I think that the “feed:” thing is suppose to open
   up your RSS client, but it doesn’t for some reason. I haven’t run into any other
   RSS problem yet (I just upgraded this week).

 * I’m having this problem using firefox and the “liberated” theme, which places
   the RSS link in the sidebar. So, I’m assuming that if this is correct, I simply
   need to remove the whole line that references “feed”?
 * The instructions are a bit unclear, or perhaps I’m just too new at this.

 * here’s another solution, no changes to the theme required.

 * I applied the suggested solution posted in the link above, but I still get the
   same error message in firefox.
 * “feed is not a registered protocol.”

 * JBarens, your RSS feed appears to be fine. See: [http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Finsomniacsdigest.com%2Ffeed%2F](http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Finsomniacsdigest.com%2Ffeed%2F)

 * Interesting…so is this a firefox issue. When I click the RSS 2.0 link on the
   sidebar, I get a firefox alert message.
 * Thanks for looking at it, everyone.

 * To those who don’t get the first post, this is about the use of “feed:” for the
   RSS anchor, as in:
 * feed:[http://my.site/my/feed/](http://my.site/my/feed/)
 * If you’re having “problems” with this, or just don’t want it in your links, edit
   out the “feed:” portion in your theme templates. Not the whole link — just the“
   feed:” text.

 * Ah, sorry that I didn’t notice that. Kafkaesquí is right. `feed:` is a new protocol(
   like `http:`) which, once fully implemented into all browsers, will launch your
   default feed reading app and either automatically subscribe you to the feed or
   check for new posts. `feed:` is partially implemented in Safari v2 and fully
   implemented in Firefox v1.0.4. For now, find the feed link in your template files
   and remove the `feed:` from it, or get Firefox v1.0.4.

 * When I remove feed: I only get a 404. Do I have to install something to make
   a rss feed?

 * No, but a link to your site would help us figure out what’s wrong.

 * Could someone please check out my RSS Feed issue on [http://www.bankruptcy-alternatives.info/alerts/](http://www.bankruptcy-alternatives.info/alerts/)?

   I removed the “feed:” but still have a problem getting feeds to show up?

 * Marmelade, sorry for responding late. I must have skipped past this thread a
   long time ago. The /feed/ URL only works with permalinks enabled. Just replace
   the entries feed URL in your footer with `<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>` and
   the comments feed URL with `<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>` and you
   should be fine.
 * Celestmark, your feed works fine here: [http://www.bankruptcy-alternatives.info/alerts/feed/](http://www.bankruptcy-alternatives.info/alerts/feed/)
   As you can see, it is also perfectly valid: [http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bankruptcy-alternatives.info%2Falerts%2Ffeed%2F](http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bankruptcy-alternatives.info%2Falerts%2Ffeed%2F)
   If you still cannot see your feed, try clearing your browser’s cache.

 * When I try to view my sites rss feed usng the links at the bottom of the page,
   I get a blank page at rss2.php. Please, can someone look at this and advise?

 * also is there a way to use the wordpress index.php file as my main website home
   page without losing style? Every time I try to move the wp files from the folder
   and into the root, my style sheet becomes inactive or something.
