border-bottom for footer appears at the bottom of header

    but the footer text is below the posts and the sidebar.

    I’m making changes to the theme in a theme child.

    I want my footer to have a background color of #5e5e5e. When I saw no results I added a border of #D98471 to the bottom of the footer space. The border appeared below the main menu below the header. I added some padding which lowered the border and you could see the background of #5e5e5e.

    Then you see the posts and the sidebar, and below that the actual footer text.

    Obviously I have some conflict some where. If you could help me out so I can understand what I have done to cause this problem I would be grateful.
