Adding category posts on mainpage

    Hi all,

    i am scrolling few days net and trying to make some category block’s on my main page, something similar to botom of http://whatculture.com/
    so it looks like :
    category name
    picture of first catergory post
    5 latest post in same categoriy

    i wanna put it 2 rows and 3 columns, been trying witl post list category but cant get what i need. Anyone got some suggestion or information would be awesome.
