    Hi,

When trying go to my site (http://shpg.se) I get this error: “HTTP-error 500 (Internal Server Error)”

I moved my site from a subdomain to the root directory a couple of days ago which worked perfectly fine until today.

Why does this happen and what can I do to solve it?

  • Internal Server Error can be because of various reasons including server problems. Have you contacted your host for support?
However, you may try the following steps that may perhaps help:
    – deactivate all plugins and see if the problem persists. If it solves the problem, activate plugins one by one until you find the problematic one
    – revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if the issue is theme-specific
    – delete any inactive plugins
reinstall WordPress manually from a freshly downloaded copy except wp-content. Do not overwrite files/ folders but delete them before reinstalling.

Use FTP or your hosting control panel if you cannot access dashboard.
Backup your site including database so that you can restore in case anything goes wrong.

I can’t reach the dashboard either.. How do I deactivate plugins and switch theme by FTP?

See the detailed instructions here on how to deactivate plugins when you cannot access the dashboard. Similarly, you can change theme also by renaming your current theme so that your site will revert to the default WordPress theme.

I contacted my host who found out that it had something to do with my Google Maps plugin. He resolved it in some way.

    Thanks a lot anyways!

Glad to know that you could resolve the issue.
