    Hi,

I’ve already searched for an answer on these support forums but couldn’t find it.

I opened a post and deleted a few lines and then saved. The post suddenly gave a 500 Internal Server Error.

All other post and pages work correctly.

I copied the content of the post into a new post and draft saved and it appears correctly.

My frontpage consists of the first few lines of the post. ANy changes I make to the post are reflected in the section above <!--more--> but clicking the title gives the 500 error.

Normally I would just create the post again but this one has a lot of valuable comemnts and also uses Gamerz rating system.

    Can somebody suggest a solution?

    TIA

  • Do you have access to your server’s error logs? Those should give more information about what’s happening on the server to generate the 500 error, which is a general purpose “something broke” indication.

I’d suspect that something is corrupt or invalid in the content of the post, which isn’t being carried over when you paste the text into a new one.

You could copying the text out, deleting the content, then pasting the text back in and saving the post.

I can’t seem to access my logs. To be honest I have never had to and when I tried today (For the reason you mentioned) I found I couldn’t.

Anyway, I have tried simply removing all the contnet and just typing the word “text” and saving etc but it makes no difference.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I removed the <!--more-->tag and the whole post shows properly.

Actually this give me an idea…It might be something to do with the last comment of the post.

    Mmmmm.

(Your last update appeared while I was typing!)

Hmmm. Tricky without the logs – can you ask your host?

If it’s not the actual post content, perhaps it’s some of the related information – custom fields, anything added by plugins, maybe even a comment with something nasty in it.

Possibly a bit awkward with a live site, but have you tried disabling plugins and seeing if that makes a difference? Or maybe switching to the default theme?

Nope, that didn’t work. Although I think (Yes, my memory is failing) that soemthing like this happened lst year and it was to do with something in the comment.

I don’t have a defualt theme installed any more. I could try disabling the plugins, but considering all the other posts work and even with all the content removed it’s still broken.

I have a suppoort ticket in with my hosts ATM regarding the logs.

It seems it was the Comment Quoter Plugin. WHy it suddenly stopped working I really don’t know!

LAst post. It was to do with a commeter quoting the whole of a very large previous quote. Once I trimmed that everything worked more or less perfectly.

Some of you might have run into the same problem I did. I was getting an awful error message on my sites. http://www.jupiterscollision.com

    “500 Internal Server Error”

I searched all over the forums only to find minimum help. I even e-mailed tech support to my host provider and they told me to use more of their products because it was a problem with my wordpress installation.I went in and deactivated all the plug-ins that I had activated. Finally coming to one that was the problem.

“WP-Cache 2.1.2 Plug-in – Very fast cache module. It’s composed of several modules, this plug-in can configure and manage the whole system. Once enabled, go to “Options” and select “WP-Cache”. By Ricardo Galli Granada.”

I went into the options and deleted the cache. Then deactivated it and BAM! back to normal.

    Good luck everyone!

Thanks for your post John!, you just solved my problem. I too was getting some internal server errors after installing a few plugins and once i deleted the wp-cache plugin that fixed everything.

    hi guys,
i deactivated wp-cache but yet i get that error.
    what i must do?

I have a problem and not sure if i am in the right spot …. but anywho…
I’m not sure what happened but all of the sudden I started getting this message when i try to navigate my site… it also happens while i access the admin panel.
    Any help would be nice..
    thanks in advance.

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@wysen.us and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I’m getting the same error. I talked with my host provider and they told me I had too many links on my site. WTF!!!

Seriously, I’ve tried everything and nothing works. Although I did have WP-Cache installed, deactivating after removing the cache did not change anything for me. I still get the error 500.

I’ve been having the same problem for months … I have tried everything! New theme … updating .. deleting … Talking with Go Daddy… As my blog is getting more popular I have more and more people emailing telling me that they received this error. Can’t imagine how many people are not coming to the site because of this.

This error can kill a blog! Please any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You have to check your *server error logs* people. It’s a generic error message which means nothing except “error”.

Go to your webhost control panel (*not* the regualr wordpress dashbaord/control-panel or your domain registrar like godaddy, but instead the control panel provided for your domain name by the company that hosts your web pages – your *webhost*) and view the webhost server error logs – that will tell you a specific error message that we can give you actionable advice on.
