    Hi all,

I have a website where I want users to see the about page first, but still have access to the posts by clicking a blog link in the menu. Easy enough to figure out how to make the about page the first page people see, but I can’t figure out how to then make the posts page accessible. It seems like this must be possbile, but I’m not finding how to do it. Bad keywords in my search, possibly.

Site is at at http://www.awcaonline.dreamhosters.com/ .

    Thanks,
    Tery

  • What do you have the home page set to under Settings -> Reading ?

Do you have a custom menu set up under Appearances -> Menu ?

I have the home page set to the about page, which is what I want in the end. And no special menu under Appearances->Menu.

So is that a static page for the About page?

For the menu, you should create a custom menu – and then you can put whatever you want in it. See:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen

This assumes that your theme is not set up in a different way – what theme is it?

Yes, it’s a static page. The theme is called BirdTIPS. The problem with creating a custom menu is that I don’t know where to point the Blog link to. Editing that into my current menu system is actually quite easy once I know what to link to. I can’t link it to the main page; when I do that, the about page shows, as expected. I don’t know the name of the page the posts go to. How do people get to that page when they use a different, static home page?

I got it. I found it in the documentation for static pages. All I had to do was create a new page with no template and no content. Thanks for your help!

You’re welcome – although you solved it yourself :)!
