The free version and the development version provide the “Add attachment” button which allows you to upload images which are optionally then displayed as thumbnails. Alls fine for you is the plain text editor is what you want. However if the rich text editors are used users the image upload facility uses the standard wordpress media library which allows everybody to see everybodies images.

For the pro version you can upload images via the editor “insert photo” button or the “image upload” button. Neither allows access to the WordPress Media Library so this will do everything you have asked for
