• I have set-up WordPress as a content management system with a static home page, but am having trouble customizing the page I select as the “posts page” for the blog. It seems to be overriding the template file I choose for that particular page.

Can anyone explain how I can go about customizing the look of this page, and which files are affecting the styling? I have a general understanding of css & php, but I’m not able to determine what to edit.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you created a designated page for your blog?
    – Create a blank page and name it “Blog” , do not add anything to the page, just change it to your blog template you created for your blog. Then just hit publish.

Have you changed which page your post should be displayed on?
    – Go to Setting > Reading > select a Static Page, then select Front Page and choose your static homepage that you designated for your homepage, then select blog page and choose your blog page that you want you blog posts to be displayed on.

    Thanks for your response IllusionstarDev.

I’ve done both of those, and I do see the posts displaying on that page rather than the static homepage we have set up. However, the blog page is drawing from the same theme as the homepage, even if I select a different theme option. Is there a way to edit a file or blog page settings so that this doesn’t happen?

If you want to customize the look of the page, you would have to create a template page called blog or what ever you may want to call it and then style it using CSS.

This should help you out. Here a section on creating a page template, and you can use that to make your blog page look different then anyother page using this and CSS styling.
