    Hi,

After a day of investigation let me be brief:

    Symptom:
After updating and activating security mode none of the pages will work after published. All pages return with 404 even after deactivating all other plugins. Posts work fine, only pages impacted.

    Fix:
    Restore default .htaccess
    Delete admin .htaccess
Regenerate permalinks under settings by clicking on the save button without doing any changes.
Revert back to version 48.1 that is the most up-to-date version without generating the symptom for me.

    Permanent fix:
Comments awaited so that I can keep updating. Until a fix comes I will stick to 48.1. On request I can provide access to test site to reproduce the 404 errors.

    cheers

Please discard everything I said above. The issue appears to be caused by a conflict of two other plugins.

This happenned to me. In my case, I found the Permalink htaccess, located between the BEGIN Word Press and END Word Press had been erased upon activating BPS’s Security Modes. I then proceeded to copy that Permalink code, which I had backed up, back to its place, and everything went back to normal.

I would appreciate if someone could let me know how to avoid the same to happen every time I need to activate Security Modes in the future.

Sounds like either the WordPress flush_rewrite_rules problem or the cPanel broken HotLink Protection tool problem.
