    Hi all WordPress gurus,

    I have a strange situation…

One of my writers uses the word count function in WordPress to write posts. She pointed out to me today that the word count function in the editor is broken across all pages and posts.

For example, the count would say “Word Count: 1787” on a particular post, when in fact there’s under 400 words of content in that post.

Because the count changes from post to post based on the number of words in a particular page, I’m surmising that this large counter number is based on the number of characters, not words.

I haven’t seen this issue before. Does anyone have insight as to what’s going on here? I’d like to get it corrected.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Can you confirm this when using the default 2012 theme and no active plugins?

    Hi esmi,

Thanks for the obvious tip. Originally, I thought it was originally a plugin issue, but after turning them off the results were the same. After trying testing the 2012 theme, I’ve isolated the problem to the latest version of Elegant Theme’s ‘Chameleon’ theme. I’m going to ping them to see what they say about it.
