Split slide vertically instead of horizontally

    I have the presentation page set up as my home page and I’m using latest posts from a specific category to display in my slider.

    My problem is that the images from my posts are not very large or horizontal. They are mostly square. I know I can adjust the size of the slider to fit my photos, but I would really like to have the dimensions 800×300 px or something similar to that, with my photo displayed on the left side and the post excerpt on the right side. Basically split the slider box vertically instead of horizontally like it is currently.

    Any ideas or help accomplishing this would be greatly appreciated.
