Variation is external is link?

    This is unfortunately not possible. It would also be a weird user experience in my opinion, that once you select a specific option in a variations drop down box, you be redirected to the external site.

    How I would do it is using a ‘grouped’ product. Make a ‘placeholder’ product as grouped type and add both your own version (purchasable on site) and the external type product linking to the external site to that group. Then just add the grouped product to your catalog and allow your customers to make the decision there.

    If you really want to look at the variations route, it will be custom work.
