Same problem. Managed to import images by uploading them via a zip folder containing the image files + CSV file, but just cannot seem to be able to import images from an external source/url.
It would be too time-consuming to have to manually download and zip thousands of images, hence the need to be able to link to external image urls.
What is the solution?
Right I still haven’t solved anything yet but a small change has occurred. I tried testing the csv upload on a different hosting server using this link for the image:
http://woodfurnitureshop.co.uk/image/data/wood/Aspen%204%20drawer%20chest.jpg
It is just a random google image. Instead of uploading nothing, this time for the product it added a featured image and uploaded it to the media library but the image was broken and not showing. No idea why it is broken.
A further update. I tried uploading another image with this link:
http://www.jhumkacity.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Khandelwal-Foam-Furnishing.jpg
It seems that the previous image (http://woodfurnitureshop.co.uk/image/data/wood/Aspen%204%20drawer%20chest.jpg) didn’t work because of the way it was saved, obviously it was saved with spaced which were replaced by %20 and the importer doesn’t like that.
Now in regards to the actual product images I wish to upload (i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o656/Bloomsbury3/150basepullout_zps8e0e3d6c.jpg) I believe they are private images as if you add http:// before the file path it redirects you to phobucket website and show the image. I know that you need an account to view the image albums normally so I guess my problem is that it is private.

Thanks for the feedback Joshua. I’m not so sure that’s the problem though, as I tried uploading all the images you mentioned into separate listings, but none of the images displayed at all (private or not) – still only the text. Any luck yet on your side? Perhaps we should contact the developer directly?
I have and he stopped replying to my emails, guessing he is busy. As I said I could only get one of the images to display and that was:
http://www.jhumkacity.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Khandelwal-Foam-Furnishing.jpg
Since then I have had the client sent me all of the images over drop box and am now trying to figure out how to upload them properly in a zip file. I truly couldn’t figure out how to do it externally for the image paths I had.
When I upload the images and the csv in a zip file. What should the file path for the picture in the csv be?

Hi Joshua – I emailed the dev too, but he didn’t reply at all for some reason.
As for importing images + CSV in a zip file, all is explained here:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/trouble-importing-image?replies=21
However, after some googling I eventually found another plugin, which so far seems to be working quite well and can actually import images via external url!:

Hope all goes well, good luck!

Seems like I sent you the link to the readme of the other plugin. The actual download link is: https://github.com/dgrundel/woo-product-importer/zipball/master
I have read that thread before. They never mention what you should actually put as the file path for the image if it is included in the zip file. I have tried all variations however and none of the work :/.
I may have to check that plugin out, thanks for the link Hein.
I have tried out that other csv importer that you suggested Hein and it works perfectly and the interface is so much better. I would recommend this to anyone if you come across any issues with csv importing.
