    I’m just wondering if this should be optimizing images uploaded as group avatars in buddypress. I ran a speed check and it says those images need optimization but I can’t navigate to that folder to run the optimization.

    In buddypress, members can start their own groups and upload and crop their own avatars. It would be amazing if they were automatically optimized as well, or if I at least had a directory path to plug in to run the plugin on.

    Any thoughts?

    Does this plugin optimize images uploaded as group avatars? probably not. If they don’t exist in the media library, they won’t get optimized. If the information is stored in the wordpress db, it may be possible to extend the functionality of the plugin to optimize these files.

    If there are others interested in this, I would consider adding it to the roadmap. Can’t imagine it would be too much work, but it’s hard to say for sure without some research.

    In the meantime, I am going to be looking at creating a standalone .php script that replicates the functionality of this plugin for one-off directory optimizations. We don’t use WP at work, and I think it will be the easiest way for us to optimize all the images on our web server in one run. Don’t really have a timeline on that, but I’ll be starting on it in the next week or two.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll try to keep an eye out for that.
    Of course with all the changes they’re putting in to buddypress they may end up changing the structure but I don’t know. Pretty sure anyone using buddypress would be interested in order to keep tabs on image sizes.

    sorry no, that’s a note that it could be available at some point in the future, and that if other people would like the feature, they should come here and post there +1

    +1

    Add me with a +1 for BuddyPress since I just installed it and was wondering where all it’s images were going (no doubt unoptimized as well)

    +1 for buddypress integration!

    buddypress support has now landed in the ‘dev’ version. I’ll probably release it early next week.

    Sweet!

    Works a treat!
    Remember to tag your plugin page with Buddypress so it shows up in their sites’s plugin listing so more users know about this brilliant plugin too, ok?

    Martin, good call on the tagging. Let me know if you can see any improvements in the UI also. I’ve tried to make it pretty user-friendly, but since I’m not the one actually using it…

    +1 for buddypress image integration!

    @gearmx it’s already integrated, mate πŸ™‚

    Thanks for your reply… sorry if I’m not understanding correctly, but I noticed this thread was in reference to group avatar images being compressed. Will it resize images that are uploaded in an activity stream using a media uploader, as in BuddyPress Activity plus? This is where image file sizes are skipped due to images in the activity stream not being part of the media uploader folder. Hope I’m being clear.
