I keep getting a sporadic “403 Forbidden: Access is denied” error message on my sites. It is not specific to just one site and it is extremely intermittent.

    HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Content-Type: text/html Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: … Connection: close Content-Length:1233

I host my sites on Bluehost but their help team is claiming this error message has nothing to do with them.

The behavior seems to be sort of random but it sometimes shows up when I open a post that has already been saved – either a post which was published a while ago or a new post that I have saved – then when I go to save it again the error message will appear, but the changes will still take effect. Another example is the other night I was going through and deleting or editing a number of categories and the 403 error only popped up twice out of the 30 times I made changes to a category.

  • I just read another user from Bluehost having problems around saving posts and such here

Sounds familiar or you think it’s something different?

I just talked to BlueHost and their servers run on Linux.

So this may be a GoDaddy issue. Both the other person – at the post link above – and I have our domains registration at GoDaddy. (I only have mine registered there because it is through a friend’s reseller account!!)

I do not have time to contact GoDaddy right now but will continue to work on this tonight and post here if I find out more.

Both Bluehost and GoDaddy say it is not a problem on their end.

What I have figured out is that it is when the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast does the check that the 403 error message appears.

As that it does not seem to be causing a problem other than being a big nuisance I am not going to spend a lot of time trying to fix it but I do wish it would go away.
