• Due to certain restrictions on my web host’s server, I’m unable to manipulate WordPress directories after the instance has been installed… at least from an FTP provider.

Because of that, I can’t include any custom CSS, or replace preset images (background slices, preset icons, etc).

I can however, update it locally, then re-zip it and re-upload it. My question is, how do I go about uploading the locally re-formatted theme options without changing any of the settings I already have on my site?

    Is this possible?

  • WordPress remembers a theme’s settings, and I make changes to my theme by simply over-writing whatever is there and my settings remain just as they were even if I first delete the entire theme to replace all of its files. I do not know whether you can upload a zip that will then over-write existing files known by the same names, but I do believe you could simply delete your theme and then do the upload to replace it and WordPress will handle it just as before as long as the theme name has not been changed.
