I have a blog which is updated once a day. There are only a few cases where a day is skipped or where there is more than one posts per day.

The Canonical URL Generation option produces canonical tags for both date archive and the single post. But in my case both pages are identical. How can I disable the canonical tag for the date archive.

Example:
http://www.myblog.com/greatarticle (posted 3/14 2013) and
http://www.myblog.com/2013/03/14 both have a canonical flag and have identical content.

Have you simply considered using the noindex manager for the category page (to prevent the duplicate content from getting indexed) as an alternative using the Meta Robot Tags Editor?

If so, then simply change the global rules using Meta Robot Tags Editor >>> Default Values >>> where you can prevent indexing of:

Administration back-end pages
Author archives
Blog search pages
Category archives
Comment feeds
Comment subpages
Date-based archives
Subpages of the homepage
Tag archives
User login/registration pages

or, for fine-grained control, you can select the Meta Robot Tags Editor >>> Categories >>> then choose nofollow to the one in question instead of worrying about a canonical issue.
