Links shared via social publisher on fan page lack description and image

I’ve been persisting with this plugin for a few days now, and every time it shares a post on my Facebook fan page, the description/excerpt and thumbnail image are missing. Instead Facebook shows a bland, unappealing link.

Any clues what might be causing this?
