All of a sudden, my pages and permalinks have 404 errors, and I’ve done nothing to the site. I tried upgrading WordPress to 2.2, but Fantastico says it cannot upgrade because of a database error.

I can edit the pages/posts, but they’re not showing up.

Anyone else had this problem, and what did you do to fix it?

(p.s. you can see the problem at http://www.amandanoelle.com . Click on the permalinks and pages and you’ll get 404 errors.)

  • Does your .htaccess file still exist?

You might try visiting Options -> Permalinks and re-saving your settings.

Lots more trouble-shooting info can be found at the Permalinks page.

I see .htaccess in my root folder, at 0 bytes.

Resaving Permalinks settings did not help.

Delete it. Try resaving and see if WordPress rebuilds it.

Also, while on Options -> Permalinks, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page… If WP can’t create or modify your .htaccess file, it should tell you what to manually add instead.

Actually, it looks like a problem with my webspace. I’m going to contact the host and deal with it tomorrow. Thank you for all your help!
