Edited a user's capablities; can no longer create/edit posts

I have a user whose role is Editor, but I wanted to give them some admin-like capabilities without actually making them an administrator. I used URE to adjust this user’s capabilities, but now they can no longer list, edit, or create posts. How compatible is this plugin supposed to be with other plugins and their additional capabilities? Am I supposed to have problems like this, where a plugin’s capability negates a WPCore capability? I understand if this particular situation is beyond your control, but it would be nice to know if it can be fixed.

I’m using WP 3.4.x (uncertain exactly which version), URE 3.10, and Event Espresso 3.1.27.1.P (along with several other Event Espresso add-ons of various versions). I cannot update Event Espresso, but one of the capabilities I wanted to let this user have seems to be mutually exclusive with creating and editing posts.
