I just installed WP today, and am not able to import my MT posts I exported from my former MT blog. I have a single .txt file that I exported from MT. I keep getting a WP error:
Unable to create directory /usr/www/users/jeffkeef/silenceandvoice/wp-content/uploads/2007/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I asked my host (Pair Networks), and they said that this file structure is not already on my site, and apache does not automatically write to it. I created the folders it stated, and still nothing.

Can somebody please help? I don’t want to begin using WP until I am sure I can import all my previous posts.

    Thank you.

THAT would be the question you want to work on with your host!

Your reply is not particularly helpful. I do not even know what to ask them!

Believe me, my goal is not to spend countless unpaid hours here to learn that I’m not particularly helpful.

That bit I quoted is directly from the error that you provided and presumably have read.

    Maybe Changing_File_Permissions will help.

Thanks for the clarification, as well as your unpaid hours! Believe me, I will gladly pay for somebody to fix this issue at this point.

I spoke with my host, and they (Pair) replies:
“The parent directories for wp-content are all writable, including wp-content.”

The exported file I have from MT is a single .txt file. Large, but a single file.

Any thoughts about this, or is there another way I can try it?

You’ve created the /usr/www/users/jeffkeef/silenceandvoice/wp-content/uploads/2007/08 directory, right?

Now, what are the current permissions on it? (see that link I gave in the last reply).

You might try [temporarily] making it “world writable” just to see if that’ll help.

I created that directory, but my host said that the permissions are such that the directory should be created as needed.

The file I am trying to import is:
    http://www.silenceandvoice.com/import.txt

Now, what are the current permissions on it? (see that link I gave in the last reply).

I followed your suggestion and made it completely writable, and in all my posts went! I then changed it back, and it seems to be working fine.

    Thank you!
