Polling

There are a number of voting and polling plugins available. But I have a question on how/if votes can be counted when the items being voted on have different creation dates. My site requires voting be done by members in this way. Obviously the first item to appear has the advantage of more time to accumulate votes. Is there some algorithm that can take this into account when determining results? Thx.
