Hi. I’m new to self hosted wordpress sites and one thing i noticed was that there’s no rich text input for editing posts. How do I get one? Like where I can make things bold/italic and change font sizes and add bullet points? I’ve been trying to get a plugin but the ones I’m picking out seem to be for something totally different.

  • Are you using the visual editor? It can do all those things you mentioned and it’s built into WordPress.

The visual editor? I don’t think so. The editor that I’m seeing is really basic. I think it’s an html editor. How do I activate the visual editor?

On the top right of the text editor, there should be 2 tabs. One says ‘Visual’ and one says ‘Text’. Click on ‘Visual’

If you don’t see it, a plugin or theme might be interfering. Try switching to the default theme and disabling plugins. You can then activate them one by one to see which is hiding the visual editor.

There were no tabs. But I solved the problem. It was something silly. In the users menu the visual editor was disabled. Spent hours on it.
