You must have an Email field on your form and the Required option must be set to Yes. Once you do that and save the form, you’ll be able to fulfill this requirement.

I do have an email field on my form, and the required option is set to yes. But still when I try to save the customized email message in the Notification section of the Form Settings, it won’t save – again, the red text saying “the field is required”.
I’m having the same issue exactly. I have an Email field on my form, the required option is set to yes, but it does not even appear as an option to select on the notification section of the form settings! I am unable to notify any of my applicants because of this issue.
I just figured out the bug…if you set up a “text” field using E-mail validation, it works fine. If you use the preset “Email” field, it fails. Now I see my Email field (which is simply a text field), it shows up as an option to select. I tried – Email notification is now working for me!

This is incorrect.
You can use either a Text field with Email validation OR a premade Email field. Either way, it should be required.
When I use the pre-made Email field, it is not recognized as an option to use for notification e-mail (it simply doesn’t show up in the list), however when I use a text field, it does. Both were set to required…not sure the reason.
