Language extension in URL prohibiting alias?

    We are trying to move our test installation to the working server, which is using an alias service. While we have deactivated all plugins, including Polylang, when calling the URL, it brings back the /el (for Greek) extension. We have tested it with the option “Hide URL language information for default language” activated, we don’t use smart links (post name), only the default permalink, and we don’t use the htaccess file (anymore).

    Any help would be very much appreciated.
