• Five times I have tried installing wordpress 1.2rc2 as a subdirectory of domain.local. Every time, install.php insists the URI is ‘http://domain.local’. If I leave it alone, WP cannot find its files. If I use the proper URI, ‘http://domain.local/wordpress’, I cannot login; WP tells me the login/password are invalid. If I change the mysql db to set the URI back to ‘http://domain.local’, I can login again, but it becomes dumb again to file locations.
Wil WP 1.2 work properly from a subdirectory, or must it be installed in the root of a domain?

  • Sorry to add to your frustration but WP usually works fine in any directory.

AFAIK, you can install it anywhere, just make sure that your WP header is pointing to the right subdirectory, and that the settings in WP point to the right place. There’s a readme somewhere on the site…

Firstly, I am getting ‘wrong login/password’ when I enter exactly what WP says I should enter. Secondly, success of the admin login should not be dependant on what is entered as the URI. [It quite clearly is.] Thirdly, The URI which should work is domain.local/wordpress, not domain.local, never domain.local. Fourthly. 1.2RC has this installation problem; 1.02 does not. 1.02 does not do all of what I need it to do. Will 1.2 work correctly?

AndrewSW said in this [http://wordpress.org/support/2/5938] post deleting cookies worked for him. Sure enough, it did for me. This is something which should be mentioned in the upgrade instructions.
