• I’m hosting my own WordPress site on a CentOS dedicated server and I am unable to get permalinks working. I went through pages of Google search results and none of the solutions had worked for me. How can I get this working?

we probably need to work out why it is not working first, before being able to find a solution.

First guess is you don’t have Mod_rewrite active and you might need to do this:
    http://dev.antoinesolutions.com/apache-server/mod_rewrite

    or something similar.

    That fixed it!

The only problem now is the pages load A LOT slower?

You might have to look at Gzipping and some other methods of speeding up your site, caching etc.

I’m not familiar with CentOS, so perhaps google can be more fruitful this time?
