Try the official Facebook plugin first. Use SFC only if it has some feature that the official plugin lacks.
Thanks, Samuel. I wasn’t sure how self-effacing you were being when you say on the SFC page (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-facebook-connect/) “Hey, have you tried the Official Facebook Plugin yet? Maybe you should give that one a shot before trying this one.” Then I noticed you’re also an author on the Facebook plugin. I thought it funny that when I look at your own author page (http://profiles.wordpress.org/otto42/) I saw that SFC is leading the FB plugin by almost 50k downloads! So I was curious to see that SFC isn’t listed as compatable with 3.5 at this point, although really recently updated.
I’ll give Facebook v1.2.3 a shot first, as you suggest, though I’m a little daunted by it at first glance. I’m not even sure whether either will work for me at this point as we’re really trying to hook up with a FB Group, not the typical Page, but we’ll see…
Thanks!
SFC is much older than the official FB plugin, and when developing it, I helped give them ideas and code from SFC to create it.
In the long run, I wish to discontinue SFC in favor of the official plugin, however until they reach feature parity, I haven’t stopped SFC support completely. However, I also haven’t done any major updates to SFC in quite a while and so some bits of it are likely broken in relatively minor ways. The majority of it still works fine though. I still use it myself.
Oh, and FB Group support is completely non-existent in SFC, so there is that. The official plugin probably doesn’t do groups either, although I haven’t looked at their recent changes.
Thanks for the heads-up on all that. This may be the push they’re needing to move from a FB Group to a Page; mostly been putting that off. But, I’ll see how much I can accomplish at my end at this point and see how far we get!
Thanks for everything. Much appreciated.
