    Hi,
I last posted on my employer’s blog 1/21. Everything was fine at that time. Then I logged in to publish a new post 1/27 and found the visual editor toolbar missing and I am unable to enter anything into the visual text box. I went to the WordPress support and searched for fixes.

I first hoped that something simple like logging in using different browsers (Safari & Firefox) & clearing the caches of each browser might fix the problem. I went through the settings to make sure the Disable Visual Editor wasn’t checked – it was not. I have not changed themes, I disabled all plugins, restarted WP, but no change. I went through every minor step I could find on the support site with no luck, so I backed up my files and did the update to WP 3.5.1. Again, it did not fix the problem.

My last attempt at a fix was to follow the suggestion of getextra on a post that was started two years ago. The suggestion was to delete the wp-includes folder and then copying a wp-includes folder from a working version of WP. While I wasn’t sure what that entailed, I logged into the control panel, went to file manager and found the wp-includes folder. I then located the same file in my backaups that I do regularly of my site (this was backed up from a time when I had no issues).

Well, even that didn’t help. I am not proficient at html, I have been managing the blog for a couple of years, but I’ve never had to deal with this kind of issue. I’ve been learning as I go and have learned how to do backups from our WP site as well as from the host’s control panel. I don’t know how to perform some of the more technical suggestions I saw, though, so it may be necessary to go to the host for support and hope they can help. However, if anyone here has a suggestion I would welcome a different suggestion. Thanks!

No, I haven’t yet. I hope I do soon, though. It’s been two weeks since I was able to post on the blog. I think I’ll give our site host a call and see if they can help.

Check the console in Chrome or Firefox to see if there is some JavaScript error.

Thanks for the suggestion, atul1280. I logged into the WP admin page and selected Add New Post to get to the page where I’m having the problem. I found the Web Console tool and quite a few errors and warnings, but most of them are CSS. There are no JS errors or warnings under the Javascript tab. I do, however, receive a warning in the Logging tab, ‘[11:43:10.857] Failed to load: http://www.listeningimpact.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/fullscreen/editor_plugin.js’. When I was first trying to figure out what was going on I followed one person’s suggestion from a previous thread to deactivate all plugins, and then if it was working again to reactivate one by one. That had no effect, and it would appear the reason would be because the plugin wasn’t loading. I went in to my plugins just now and didn’t find one for the visual editor toolbar. I’ve never noticed before – is one supposed to be there? I looked for a new one to take it’s place, but I’m not sure what I’m looking for.

Do you think I should just install a new plugin or should I continue to try to get the old editor toolbar back? Thanks for taking the time to help!

TinyMCE is included by default in WordPress. Go to the network tab in Chrome developer tools and reload the page. It should show you if some file is having 404 error. Or maybe some file is corrupted. If you could post the screenshot of your error console that would be a plus.

Thanks for your suggestion. Yesterday, before packing up the computer for the day, I went back into my file manager, found the file for the visual editor, deleted it, inserted the same file from an update from last November, but I didn’t take the time to test it.

After I saw your suggestion today I decided to try what you suggested using Chrome (I’ve been using Safari and primarily Firefox since this began). I didn’t even have it installed on my laptop, so after it installed I opened my WP admin page, clicked on New Post and what did I see but the restored Visual Editor tool bar. I opened Firefox and found the same thing.

Thanks much for your suggestions and time.
