VERY nice first attempt! Pat yourself on the back; you deserve it.
One suggestion would be to possibly implement a ratings system for your reviews. Two plugins that come to mind are:
1. WP Review Stuff
2. DG Review site
They’re pretty versatile and either one might fit your site well.
I wish the Structured Blogging plugin still worked. It would have been perfect. 🙁

I like it. I don’t see anything innovative in the theme design per se, it’s just a nice, solid, pleasant, legible theme — appropriately applied, and starting to get filled with your content, which it displays well enough. Have to see when there’re more posts per category, how it fills out.
If you don’t plan to add a lot more categories, you could put the category links in the top nav bar, next to Home | About | Cat1 | Cat2 | Cat3
