You don’t need anything on your computer. This should give you a bunch of good information:

Thanks WPYogi, although I am still confused. Where do I go and edit the style.css or other file.
Example I have to add a header Image, where do I go and change the code. I am not seeing the Appearance or Settings tab in the dashboard.
The Admin has given me editor rights.
as Editor, you will be able to add and edit posts and pages (and a little bit else).

I have to build a website for my school.
for this you will probably need Administrator rights.
as Editor, you will not be able to do anything with the templates.
this means when I will be an administrator, then I will access to all the Theme files ?
Sorry, I meant to post this link:

But as alchymyth said, you will need Admin rights to do much.
I am an administrator on the WP site, but under the appearance tab I am not able to see Editor. How can I edit the style.css sheets without the editor. Is there something wrong with my role ?
is your site with WordPress.com or self-hosted and using WordPress.org?

This is the url of the website, will you be able to make out whether it is with word press or self hosted.
it seems to be self-hosted and running WordPress.org.
so in theory, you should be able to see the ‘editor’ under the ‘appearance’ tab.
could you possibly ask your Admin in person to show you personally how to access the WordPress dashboard and the editor?
one thought: it could be running in a Multisite setup, for which I have no idea what role you would need to edit themes.
possibly post a question here in the ‘Multisite’ sub forum: http://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite#postform
