Advertising on the left and right of the theme on the background

Hi there,

I would like to know if I can add advertisement on the left and the right side of the theme, means on the background left beside my left sidebar and right beside my right sidebar. You can see it here: http://www.help-tourists-in-paris.com

I also want to make my first page (front page) more interactive. I would like to add like small boxes, one with my last article including a picture and the beginning of the text, another one with latest news, picture of the day and so on. Is this possible?
