Support » Fixing WordPress » Can not edit posts after updating to 3.5.1

  • I just updated my wordpress to 3.5.1. Afterwards, I tried to edit some of my posts, but when I click the edit button for the permalink, nothing happens. Also when I click “screen options”, I don’t get a response either. Everything in the text box is normal, but I can’t edit anything on the screen. What do I do to repair this?

    Thanks in advance

  • Start with the standard troubleshooting steps:

Deactivating all plugins. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

Switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Reset the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin in case one is not fully deactivated.

Deactivated plugins and still couldn’t edit…

will changing the theme ruin my site? I’m using wordpress template for my business and I’m afraid I will ruin everything if I change the theme.

It shouldn’t, but as always, you should do a full back-up before doing any kind of major change or work on your site.

The same is happening to me. I de-activated all plugins and it doesn’t work. I even changed the theme, but it shows the old one like anything changed.
From time to time some changes appear on the site, but not all and not always (same changes – like title – appears once and then, when modified again, don’t).

@anka_n – please start your own thread. It’s rude to hijack another person’s thread and even though your issues may seem the same, it’s unlikely they are.

@leon – did you read what I posted right above your post? You don’t even have a remotely similar issue.

maybe you could login to my site and fix this?

No, sorry, help is only offered here on the forums. If you need more help than that, you could consider hiring someone: http://jobs.wordpress.net/

i click the “help” button at the top right of the post edit page and that doesn’t work either. I can not believe this… And I have to pay for help?

How can you say my site will not be ruined if I change the theme? I’m using a template called “Clear Theme” from ThemeForest. If I change themes, my site will be ruined (so I imagine).

And I have to pay for help?

No, you don’t have to do anything – it’s up to you. But WP is entirely free and everyone helping out here is a volunteer (not getting paid), so this is the only help that is available here.

If you don’t want to try what is offered here, perhaps the developer of your theme can help you.
