Editor has no effect on layout

    Hi guys,

    I’ve been trying to change a few aspects of my banner. I basically just want to halve the size of it which now seems impossible. So any help there would be great. Even more importantly though, I’ve been editing code (having already copied and pasted the original code into a text doc for safety!) to try and cut down the height of the banner in pixels and nothing seemed to be happening. So for troubleshooting purposes I stepped it up and was reckless, changing values like 270px to 0px. I did this on several dimensions and not one made a difference! I updated, refreshed (several times) and nothing has changed on my page.

    Any ideas why on earth this would be? It should have changed something, anything…but everything just remained the same. It appears anything I do in the Editor makes no difference.

    Please help if you can (code to shrink the banner height would be great, it’s far too big), I desperately need to solve this today, I’ve spent a week trying to do the most simple things on my site, I just need it up and running now!

    Do not edit the Twenty Ten theme. First create a child theme for your changes or use a custom CSS plugin.

    Hi Esmi,

    I believe I’m on 2011 anyway. So the editor doesn’t work unless I’m on a child theme?

    No – I didn’t say that. I said that you should not be editing the Twenty Eleven theme itself full stop.

    Oh ok, I just wanted to check as another guy I spoke to said that because 2011 is the default theme it is not editable unless you create a child theme. I found a plug in for the banner adjustment anyway. It lets you adjust the height in pixels, very helpful. it’s called Twenty Eleven Theme Extensions for anyone who is interested.

    My next problem is reducing the obscenely large padding between body and menu bar. That should take up the weekend 🙂
